“The Left is permanently at war with America.”

In 1996, conservative political activist and commentator David Horowitz declared that unlike traditional liberals, the Left was at war with America on every front and on every issue. Today, this war continues—a political battle waged by the radical Left to reshape America into a statist society where the federal government is the sole arbiter of individual rights.

After the 2000 presidential election and again following the election of 2004, many prominent liberals both in Congress and in the media had become brazenly vocal in their disdain for traditional American values. They openly opposed any effort professed to increase American prosperity and strength. Meanwhile, elected Democrats publicly announced their complete unwillingness to cooperate with Republicans. Unfortunately, conservatives have been slow to understand the tactics of their political opponents: A take-no-prisoners war in which there can be little, if any honest negotiation.

The Left fights its political battles 24/7 in a relentless attempt to impose their radical agenda onto American society. The Right usually prefers not to be so adversarial. Conservatives have jobs, families, and real lives, and would rather avoid confrontations that take them from their normal lifestyles. For the Left, political confrontation IS their lifestyle.

For the average conservative, there has to be more on the table before they invest their time and energy in political battle. But now that the Obama administration has made some alarming attempts to diminish the power of the citizen in favor of the state, Americans are beginning to notice just how perilous this new trend could be. We now face a high stakes game for the future survival of this country, and millions of Americans are coming to the table.

From the Tea Parties and huge public protests, to the widespread dissent expressed in town hall meetings, ordinary Americans across the country have gathered in numbers too significant to ignore. As if inspired by some collective Howard Beale moment, they’re mad as hell, and not willing to take it any more. This is truly a remarkable phenomenon that’s growing into a political movement that will not soon be turned away.

As Patrick Henry might say if he were alive today, “If this be an angry mob, make the most of it!”
